Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency
You have an increased chance of developing lung and liver illness if you have Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AAT deficiency). A protein called Alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) helps keep the lungs healthy. It's made in the liver. It's impossible for the AAT proteins to reach the lungs if they aren't in the appropriate form.
