Dr. Shantha is a graduate of Bangalore Medical College in Bangalore, India. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at East Tennessee State University James H. Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, Tn. He completed his Fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care at East Tennessee State University James H. Quillen College of Medicine.

He is board certified in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Sleep Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a Fellow of American College of Chest Physicians and Diplomate in Sleep Medicine through American Academy of Sleep Medicine .
